Just one day after Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) beefed up Android with an eye on gaming, Palm ( NSDQ: PALM ) introduced tools that could bring 3D graphics and improved performance to webOS applications. The company previewed its Plug-in Development Kit at CES earlier this year, and it finally made a beta version available to developers over the weekend. The PDK lets content creators use C and C++ programming to create webOS apps, which could potentially make it easier to port iPhone apps over (although many iPhone apps use Cocoa Touch)

The big buzz on the Canadian mobile scene these last few weeks has been Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ). News hit us hard that they’re bringing a ton of Android and MOTOBLUR love to the true north strong and free via the BACKFLIP , DEXT and QUENCH . The devices would be sprinkled amongst the ‘big 3′, giving consumers nationwide a good look at what Moto has to offer these days

TELUS to Launch Motorola’s iDEN ‘Opus One’?

If you’re looking for an iPhone application to share photos across your social networks, you may want to give TweetPhoto a roll. The site just got an overhaul – which prominently features photos of the Full House cast – and this new iPhone app makes it pretty simple to share pictures across Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, or Foursquare accounts. I downloaded the free app TweetPhoto Pro and it looks pretty good: it has a clean interface that makes it quick to scan your friends’ photo streams, as well as public or popular photos

Remember that Motorola Opus we’ve seen back in December of 2009 ? The iDEN based device seems to be heading towards the official announcement, possibly at the CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas next month. The new thing is the name – instead of Opus, Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) will call it i1 (meaning the i2 and maybe even i3 is in development?).

ZTE Smooth ZTE wants to go beyond its low-cost handset maker image and enter the higher-margin smartphone market. The Chinese company is working round the clock on brand new Android-powered smartphones (not one, but multiple devices) as we speak. In that sense, today we present you 4 ZTE phones that could find its way to the market (possibly even outside China) this year: ZTE Smooth – the Palm ( NSDQ: PALM ) Pre like device with Android 1.6, 2.8-inch QVGA display, QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio, and 3g (UMTS) connectivity

The breakdown of Google ( NSDQ: GOOG )-China relations won’t affect China Unicom, which is the world’s second-largest mobile operator by subscribers. The carrier plans to offer Android smartphones and I doubt Google has anything against that, considering the potential reach. On the sidelines of the opening of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing, Unicom Chairman Chang Xiaobing said: “We are open to mobile phone operating systems, and we recognise that Android is a mainstream system… We will definitely use Google’s Android in our mobile handsets.” Meanwhile, Unicom’s arch-rival, China Mobile ( NYSE: CHL ), is pushing forward its flavor of Android – OPhone, with plans to launch many handsets this year.

An interesting story over at AndroidForums has surfaced. It looks like out of all that 512MBs on the spec sheet of the Nexus One, only 196MBs are available to the user. Fixes have been promised, but nothing more.

I think it’s a crying shame that Tawkon’s iPhone application won’t be allowed in the App Store because it seems like a well-crafted program that could find a large audience.
