This was my second time at the show, and for some of my colleagues it was their third visit, so we all had a rough idea of what was going to happen. Some HTC Droid Eris users are reportedly already getting over-the-air updates to Android 2.1, so it’s not surprising to see the Droid Eris playing with the not-yet-released Android 2.1 OS and the updated Sense UI.

Developer with nickname “6Fg8″ from XDA-Developers.com made an interesting proof-of-concept application that basically turns the HTC HD2 into a metal detector. How you ask? Apparently, it uses the HD2’s built-in compass to “detect metal nearby by the deviation of the earth’s magnetic field included by the metal.” Sounds like a mumbo-jumbo but apparently it works… I guess.
