Shine Touch from LG Coming to Rogers and TELUS

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The LG’s family of Shine phones, currently available in slider , candybar , and flip incarnations, will be expanding with a touchscreen device bearing the model number KM555, or more colloquially, the Shine Touch. It’s due to land on Rogers ( NYSE: RCI ) according to internal docs, and TELUS ( NYSE: TU ) according to the LG Canada spec sheet , but still no official word from either carrier. The Shine Touch is a relatively low-end device – 3 megapixel camera, 3″ WQVGA display, FM radio, Wi-Fi, 3G with quad-band GSM support, S-class UI, and 5 hours of talk time. It’s not much to look at, and presuming you’ve had a chance to check out the S-Class user interface , navigation on the Shine Touch might be a hard pill to swallow.

Rogers Navigator for iPhone Coming Soon – Will Not be Voiced by Kenny Rogers

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Seems like Rogers ( NYSE: RCI ) has been busy over the last little while. They’ve just launched the Samsung Galaxy ‘Spica’ powered-by Android 1.5, and late last week they also launched the new Rogers ‘RedBoard’ to help them connect with customers.

Looks like Fido is now advertising the Samsung Gravity as ‘coming soon’. From all accounts I’ve read so far it looks like ‘coming soon’ (when translated) means March 16th

Rogers’ urMusic Store Goes DRM-Free

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Hot on the heels of Telus’ announcement , Rogers ( NYSE: RCI ) has upgraded their urMusic MP3 store to include DRM-free files, allowing you to use purchased tunes on any device you want, unhindered. Considering the quoted price points between $0.69 and $1.29 per track and $20 monthly subscription for unlimited downloads are identical to Telus ( NYSE: TU )’ offering, I can’t help but think Rogers is getting their licensing from the same source

Samsung Flight and Motorola W388 Coming Soon to Rogers and Fido

Monday, February 8th, 2010

While these aren’t the touchscreen beauties we’ve heard about , it’s always worth noting when a carrier has something new to offer. In this case, it looks like we have some proof (via a FutureShop flyer) of the Samsung Flight and the Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) ( NYSE: MOT ) W388, coming to Rogers ( NYSE: RCI ) ( NYSE: RCI ) and Fido respectively. The Samsung Flight features a look and form-factor strikingly similar to another popular device out on the market these days.

Rogers Customers Eligible to Upgrade to Anything After 2 Years

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Rogers ( NYSE: RCI ) is revamping their hardware upgrade program so that if you’ve had a contract for two years, you can upgrade as if you were a new customer to any new handset (complete with subsidies if you’re willing to take a contract extension). That two-year point can be pushed even earlier depending on how much cash you’ve poured into Rogers to date. That’s all well and good, but falls on deaf ears to those who used to be able to upgrade after 12 months before last March.
